I wish I could just coach!

Like many other coaches, I got into the business of running a gymnastics club because I wanted the luxury
of running a gymnastics program the way I thought was best.  After all, how hard could it be?

It took a few years of denial and financial struggle before I realized that just because I could coach
gymnastics didn't mean I could run a business.

Running the business was affecting my ability to coach.  I had to cover classes, clean up the overflowing
toilet, make bank deposits, pay the ever increasing types of taxes, and clean the gym.  Basically I had
become chief cook, bottle washer, and janitor for the sport of gymnastics and it was wearing me out.  By the
time team workout rolled around I was beat.  Too tired to take the time for proper planning, workouts
became a monotonous exercise that bored myself and the kids on team.

Team and class members started leaving to join other gym programs around town.  Threatened with
financial hardship, I made some concessions.  Often, I gave in to unreasonable demands just to keep kids
in the program.  My program was eroding.  I was becoming dependent on the goodwill of the few people I
had left in classes.

Again, the problem was not in my ability to coach.  I had developed a number of championship teams and
individual champions.  I also realized that I truly loved the sport.  I couldn't imagine doing anything else.  So
what was the problem?  What was I doing wrong?

I learned that a business is a business no matter what type it is.   Certain rules apply for you to have a
decent chance at success.

Wait a minute.  I'll bet a few of you took exception to that statement.  Let me amend my position by saying
that yes, the business and sport of gymnastics has many unique factors that have to be considered, but it is
still at its root a business.

Don't spend too much time watching for me on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. I haven't made it that far
yet.  Even so, I feel that I have a few ideas you will find useful for your club.  I have listed all the ideas I have
run across in my thirty years in this sport.  Ideas for developing class enrollment and income producing
programs for gymnastics clubs.

If even one idea helps you to sign up one new gymnast it will have been worth the cost of this book.  My
guarantee to you is that if you don't find even one idea that helps, send back this book and I will refund
your money.

Remember, as you read, each idea can be adapted to fit your program any way you wish.  You may feel
your creative juices begin to flow as you go over the ideas listed.  Let your mind roam and see what new
ideas you can create.  Send me a copy of your idea and I will be happy to include it along with your name
and club affiliation in future editions of this book.

Some ideas are presented in greater detail than others.  I suggest you take all the ideas and brainstorm
with your staff ways of using each within your program.

Begin by using only use one idea at a time.  Don't be like the little girl  who got her hand caught in the
cookie jar because she tried to take too many at once.  Take only one idea at a time.  Research it
thoroughly for use in your program and then implement it to see what happens.  Some ideas may produce
little results while others produce spectacular results.  Monitor each idea to record its worth for your
business.
Spend more time on the gym floor coaching and less time worrying about meeting
your bills and filling each of your classes.  This book shows you how to use
marketing, advertising, and public relations techniques to help you increase the
enrollment at your club.  Each of the chapters are filled with literally hundreds of
ideas you can use within your facility.
"You've got a winner!  Your new book, 101 Ways to Increase Class Enrollment & Club Profitability is super! I
didn't get past page four before I was already taking notes and getting new ideas.  I've been a gym owner for
25 years, and anyone who owns a gym school could really benefit from this book.  It's so worth the money.
Making money in this business can be done.  We know it is a matter of listening, watching, and reading from
those who have been successful and copying what they've done.  This is a great book to get those ideas.
Congratulations!"
